April is Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month

Did you know that more women suffer from visual impairments than men? For this reason April has been dedicated as Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. At Linsey EyeCare, we want to take the time to educate you on women’s eye health and safety. While it is important throughout the year, April allows us to further educate our patients on this important matter.

One reason why women are affected by eye health issues more than men is because they tend to live longer.  Women are also affected by hormonal factors, according to the National Eye Institute (NEI).  Some risk factors that contribute to visual impairment in women are:
  • Age
  • Smoking
  • Poor nutrition
  • Obesity
So, now that you know that women are more prone to developing visual impairment, what can you do to ensure that you are taking care of your own eyes? At Linsey EyeCare we offer three easy tips to help protect your eye health not only in April, but throughout the year, as well.

Visit Our Wyomissing Area Eye Doctors

As part of your health routine you should always make regular eye exams a priority. By visiting our office for eye exams, you can further protect yourself from various visual conditions, such as blindness. It is recommended that you should have a comprehensive eye exam by the age of 40, if not earlier, in addition to follow up care as recommended by one of our eye doctors in Wyomissing. Regular dilated eye exams can help prevent eye problems whether you are a child, young adult, middle age or a senior.

Stay Active

Staying active can help improve your eye and overall health.  Getting regular, moderate physical activity can reduce your risk of developing problems that can lead to various eye diseases. When remaining active, try aiming for 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week. Not only will your eyes remain healthier, your body will too.

Protect Your Eyes from Injury

Sunglasses are not just a fashion statement; they work to protect your eyes from the damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun. It is also important to wear a hat with a brim to further protect your eyes from the sun.  When working with chemicals or machinery, or while playing sports, it is also important to wear gear to prevent mishaps.

We want to encourage women, and men, too, to make it a priority to have an annual eye exam.  A dilated exam is essential in the maintenance of your eye health and Linsey EyeCare is available to help. The month of April may be Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month, but we want to raise awareness for eye health all year long, as well. For more information, or to schedule your annual eye exam with one of our Wyomissing, PA optometrists, contact our office at (610) 373-2300 or simply schedule an appointment online today

Testimonial

I have been coming to Linsey Eyecare for years and have always had the best experience, specifically with eyecare and contact lenses.

The selection was everything I heard it was. Thanks for a great experience.

Bought 2 pairs of glasses. The office was clean and the staff was extremely helpful. I would recommend this to anyone.
