Hindsight is 20/20 but what if you kept your eye on preventative medicine instead of treating an issue or disease. At Linsey Eyecare, your Wyomissing, PA, optometrist, also serving Reading, PA, offers a variety of preventative services, one of which includes eye examinations.

What are eye exams?

An eye exam evaluates your vision and checks for eye diseases. The actual exam tests different aspects of your vision and eye health. It requires your eye doctor to use various instruments. They shine a bright light at your eyes and request that you look through an array of lenses.

Your Wyomissing, PA, optometrist, also serving Reading, PA, determines if you need glasses and your unique prescription. If you prefer contact lenses and are old enough to manage caring for them, your doctor can also help you out with this alternative.

Other than glasses and lenses, eye exams can detect a number of diseases like :

  1. Aneurysm, a bubble in the wall of a blood vessel that may leak or rupture.

  2. A brain tumor that increases pressure in the brain is detected because of swelling near the back of the eyes, loss of side vision, double vision, or changes in the size of a pupil.

  3. Diabetes can be detected because tiny blood vessels in the retina leak yellow fluid.

  4. High blood pressure causes unusual bends, kinks, or bleeding from blood vessels in the back of the eye.

  5. High cholesterol creates a yellow or blue ring around the cornea, especially if someone is less than 40 years old.

  6. Lupus causes swelling in the eye or the light-sensitive tissue in the back of the eye.

  7. Lyme disease, an infection spread by ticks, causes inflammation throughout the body, including the optic nerve.

  8. Multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system, causes inflammation of the optic nerve, blurred vision, and painful eye movement.

Testimonial

I have been coming to Linsey Eyecare for years and have always had the best experience, specifically with eyecare and contact lenses.

The selection was everything I heard it was. Thanks for a great experience.

Bought 2 pairs of glasses. The office was clean and the staff was extremely helpful. I would recommend this to anyone.
